Scythe courses and supply

Somerset Scythe School is here to teach and promote the use of the truly wonderful tool that is the scythe.

Quieter, more efficient and easier to use than a strimmer, the scythe is making a comeback.

Rural or urban, gardens, wildflower meadows, verges, ditches and riverbanks, graveyards, woodlands, hills and marshes: the scythe can work well anywhere and everywhere. 

What's more it requires no fossil fuels, leaves no pollutants, makes (almost) no noise, it keeps you fit and it's great fun!

Age 7 to 87+ you can learn to use a scythe. 

Courses  have  finished  for  this  season.

At  the  beginning  of  October  I  am  due  to  go  into  hospital  for  a  double  hip replacement  (nothing  to  do  with  scything!)  and  so  will  be closed  for  the  winter.

If  i  have  any  stock  left  at  the  end  of  the  summer  the  shop  should  be  open  after  Christmas.

All  being  well  I  will  be  starting  up  again  in  April  with  a  Peening  Workshop  for  International  Peening  Day  on  Sunday  the  6th  April.

My  first  group  course  of  2025  is  currently  planned   to  be  on  the  last  weekend  of  April.  Beginners  on  the  Saturday,  Improvers  on  Sunday.

I am a UK distributor for scythes made by the Schröckenfux factory in Austria where they have been made since 1540. Austrian scythe blades are recognized around the world as being of the highest quality.

I have a range of blades in stock to cope with varying needs and snaths (handles) for users of almost any height.

I also stock a range of sharpening equipment and other accessories.

Please  note  that  I  am  not  able  to  send  snaths  by  mail  or  courier  due  to  package  length  restrictions.
