Somerset Scythe School is here to teach and promote the use of the truly wonderful tool that is the scythe.
Quieter, more efficient and easier to use than a strimmer, the scythe is making a comeback.
Rural or urban, gardens, wildflower meadows, verges, ditches and riverbanks, graveyards, woodlands, hills and marshes: the scythe can work well anywhere and everywhere.
What's more it requires no fossil fuels, leaves no pollutants, makes (almost) no noise, it keeps you fit and it's great fun!
Age 7 to 87+ you can learn to use a scythe.
I’m very pleased to say that my double hip replacement surgery was successful and, 8 months on, I am back to working and competing as before. (Still UK Ladies Champion).
My next group course at Mower Meadow is planned for Sunday 17th August - taking bookings now.
I still have a few dates available to book private tuition sessions before I head off on my tour of the North in July.
I’ll be teaching the improvers’ course at Cultybraggan Camp on 18th july and offering a blade peening service and “have a go” sessions at the Scottish Scythe Festival there on 19th July.
if you would like to book some personal tuition in Scotland / Northumberland I will be available between 20th and 24th July .
After winning the Ladies Champion title at the Green Scythe Fair again this year I have made the decision to retire from the women’s competition and concentrate my efforts into promoting inclusivity in scything. To this end I am now announcing my new role as British Ambassador for Disability, Age and Sexual equality in Scything (BADASS!) 😁
Seriously, I really want to encourage more women, older people and people with disabilities to take up scything and especially to enter the competitions. It’s time we caught up with mainland Europe again.
I run scythe courses for individuals and groups.

I also stock a range of sharpening equipment and other accessories.
